Menla Psychological Counselling is where you’ll find emotional and psychological assistance from fully-trained and experienced Psychologist, Sara Jungen who is here to gently and skillfully support you on your journey to your best life.

Sara's approach stems from a mindfulness perspective and a conviction that at the core of all people there is basic goodness that is always urging us towards growth and well-being.

Clients of Menla Psychological Counselling are comprised of individuals, couples and families and most of our clients contact us directly when they feel they would benefit from support.  We also accept referrals from doctors, insurance companies, lawyers, and other professionals.

Getting Started

When embarking on a journey of personal work, your confidentiality is of great importance.  As your counsellor, Sara will create a safe environment that will allow you to soften and explore the layers of your authentic experience during your healing journey.  Sara brings her heart to meet yours during this process.

Sometimes taking the first steps towards counselling can feel intimidating.  You may even feel vulnerable or unsure in how to proceed.  We hope that this website will help answer some of your basic questions, and from there we would be delighted to hear from you to discuss whether our services might be a good fit for you at this time.

Sometimes you may need important knowledge or skills, such as better ways to communicate with your spouse, techniques to overcome anxiety, de-escalate anger, parent your children, reduce work stress, or make important decisions in your life.

At other times, you may already know what you need to do, but may require support to act on what you know.

Mindfulness

At Menla Psychological Counselling, therapy work is rooted in the principles of mindfulness.  Mindfulness means shifting out of ‘autopilot’ and placing your attention fully in the moment – where you have the power to act from your own authentic wisdom.  Starting with an attitude of basic kindness toward yourself, and then becoming ‘present’ or fully aware of what is actually happening, as well as to the thoughts you are having about it, creates the opportunity for new discoveries – and for real change to occur.

Mindfulness is one of the most simple, yet profound paths to mental and physical wellbeing.

In the past several years, mindfulness has become a ‘buzzword’ in popular culture, but the teachings and practices of mindfulness have actually been around for thousands of years.  It is only in the last several decades that the field of neuroscience has begun measuring and empirically proving the power of mindfulness to change peoples' lives for the better.

What to Expect

Once she understands your goals for counseling, Sara will work with you to develop a plan for how to help you reach those goals.  Sara has specialized approaches that she may suggest, depending on what will work best for you and your unique goals.  In addition to mindfulness practices, Sara also makes use of other research-proven techniques such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Gottman Couples Therapy and other approaches as required.

In addition to counselling, Menla also offers a popular six-week Meditation for Mental Health course.  This course assists you in learning to be present to the wisdom of your mind and body as a way of creating a healthier more balanced life, both as an individual and in your relationships with others.

Some Meditation techniques may also be woven into individual counselling sessions, as these can be a great compliment to individual therapy!
